ABOUT
Daniel F. Corrin
Mediator
Daniel’s decision to focus on mediation reflects his commitment to conflict resolution outside the
courtroom. Daniel’s quarter-century experience as courtroom trial lawyer provided a keen
understanding of the dynamics of dispute, risk and the pressure that drive parties to conflict. These
insights he now uses to resolve disputes before trial. As part of this process Daniel has taken
advanced mediation training at the Pepperdine Caruso Law School, with the International Academy of
Mediators (IAM) in Switzerland and the US as well as local training with organizations like Mediate
BC.
Daniel’s professional litigation practice involved catastrophic injuries: traumatic brain injuries,
spinal cord injuries, medical malpractice or other complex cases. Many involved multi parties,
multiple lawyers and layers of insurance. As a litigator, Daniel was known to engage with individuals
and families from all walks of life. While he obtained many multi-million-dollar judgments, he
obtained many more hard-fought settlements following years of complex and draining litigation.
As a result, Daniel’s approach to mediation is grounded in empathy, strategic insight, and a deep
appreciation for both the legal framework and the human experience at the heart of every conflict. He
works with individuals, counsel, and organizations to move parties from entrenched positions toward
durable and mutually acceptable resolutions, in complex commercial matters, insurance disputes, or
interpersonal conflicts. He is known among counsel and participants for his ability to combine
structured process design with attentive listening, balanced direction, and strategic questioning, all
aimed at helping participants arrive at outcomes they can confidently implement.
Daniel is based in British Columbia and serves clients across Canada, in person or by video.
Daniel’s background and transition to mediation arises after decades of not only litigation, but also
charitable engagement with the brain injury, legal, and medical communities. He has provided
voluntary legal assistance to many community brain injury organizations. He served on the board of
Family Services of Vancouver. He served on the Executive and Board of Governors of the Trial Lawyers
Association of BC (TLABC) and was a long standing chair of the TLABC education committee. He
organized countless legal conferences focused on law, medicine, ethics and dispute resolution.
As a legal speaker and educator, Daniel presented at national and international conferences. He
presented at the International Mental Health and the Law conferences in Rome and Prague, as well as
professional forums at Vancouver General Hospital, GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre, and the Pacific
Coast Brain Injury Conference. He has written on legal and medical-legal issues and was an author of
the Continuing Legal Education British Columbia Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Practice Manual.
As a mediator Daniel brings a calm, structured, and empathetic approach to dispute resolution. He is
known for his ability to listen carefully, understand the underlying interests of all parties, and
help participants move beyond entrenched positions toward fair and workable outcomes. His years of
direct engagement with injured individuals, families, professionals, and insurers have shaped a
dispute resolution style that is respectful, informed, and deeply human.
Daniel facilitates resolution discussions in a wide range of matters, including but not limited to:
- Commercial and contractual disputes
- Insurance and personal injury-related disagreements
- Workplace and employment conflicts
- Professional liability and healthcare disputes
